Albany has been a center of higher education for over a century, with much of the remainder of its economy dependent on state government and health care services. Albany is also the home of national and multi-national corporations that own and operate electric generating facilities
In all of these industries, we maintain active employment attorney practices representing the employment, employee benefits and labor interests of individuals, institutions and unions.
Albany employment attorneys
regularly guide clients through internal and governmental investigations, and represent them in federal and state courts, disciplinary proceedings, and actions initiated by a variety of regulatory agencies. Our experience includes discrimination claims—on the basis of race and color, creed, national origin, sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, marital status, familial status, domestic violence victim status, arrest or conviction record discrimination, or predisposing genetic characteristics—before the New York State Division of Human Rights.
We also have routinely represent clients in matters involving minimum wage, hours of work, child labor, payment of wages and wage supplements, prevailing wage law and health and safety and wage and hour issues before the New York State Department of Labor. In addition, our employment attorneys in Albany have broad experience with Medicaid, Medicare and other government health care programs and represent diverse clients, including whistleblowers, in connection with Medicaid, Medicare and SCHIP fraud and abuse issues.
Our employee benefits attorneys focuses on health care where we take a multidisciplinary approach in advising our health plan clients, and others in the health care industry, by combining our ERISA transactional and litigation knowledge, legislative experience and wide-ranging employee benefits industry knowledge.
Our labor attorneys have played an instrumental role in negotiating, advocating and litigating the interests of public sector unions in the Albany market. We serve as, or have served, as counsel to the largest public sector unions in New York State and have been involved in complex and high stakes litigation and matters before the Public Employment Relations Board (PERB).
In addition, our labor and employee benefits attorneys provide advice to labor unions on sophisticated transactions involving energy companies that propose or undergo mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, spin-offs and other corporate reorganizations.
